Vocational Training Ideas in high school setting

Vocation/Jobs and job training is very important to our high school age students with disabilities. Some of the best experiences can come from in your own school. There are many ways to find useful job practice.
Ask your office staff if they have any clerical work you can assist with.
  • Envelope stuffing
  • removing staples
  • shredding confidential information
  • crossing out names or putting labels on file folders to re-use them
  • collating forms (we do our athletic packets)
  • folding papers for envelopes
  • labeling envelopes
Custodial staff/kitchen staff can also have many tasks they can help with;
  • Help put out tables/take down tables for lunch time
  • wash tables after lunch time
  • wash rags/mop heads (if you have access to a washing machine)
  • help stock kitchen coolers/chips/packaged foods
  • wash rags from kitchen (we charge for these services and it helps pay for our community based outings and field trips)
In our school we also wash all the athletics uniforms and charge for that service.
We also collect recycling, we separate the bottles from cans. We keep the cans and bring them in for money also.
The cans becomes a multi-step job. Wash can, take tab off can, crush can.
